Mövenpick Sukhumvit 15, Bangkok: A Calm Base in the Middle of It All

Bangkok has hotels you stay in for the hotel. This one you stay in for the location, and it does that job well.

We were here in January 2023. It's on Sukhumvit Soi 15, about five minutes on foot from the Asok interchange, where the BTS Skytrain and the MRT subway meet. If you hate Bangkok traffic, that one fact is worth a lot.

The courtyard

The first thing that surprised us is the courtyard. You step off one of the busiest roads in Asia, and there's a single tree standing in still water between white walls. It's a small thing, and it changes how the arrival feels.

The suites

We filmed the suites, and they're the reason to pay a little more here. The Junior Suite is 50 square metres and the Executive Suite is 60, each with a separate living room. Warm wood floors and striped armchairs give them a classic look.

Executive rooms and suites include lounge access, with breakfast and evening cocktails. If you're in the city for work, that's where the value is.

Food and drink

  • Lelawadee: the main restaurant, for Thai and international dishes, with a wall of wooden shelves that makes the room feel smaller and warmer than it is.

  • Rainforest Rooftop Bar: cabanas and greenery with the skyline behind them, for a drink at the end of the day.

  • Chocolate Hour: the brand's daily ritual, every afternoon. It's free, and yes, you'll go.

There's also a rooftop pool and a free tuk-tuk shuttle to Terminal 21, the shopping mall that sits between the two train lines.

Who should book it

Book it for a practical stay, between flights or for work, or if you want Terminal 21 and Sukhumvit's restaurants on your doorstep.

For a Bangkok stay that's the highlight of the trip, we'd choose Four Seasons Bangkok on the river or 137 Pillars nearby in Phrom Phong. Our full list is in the best luxury hotels in Thailand.
