Luxintravels VIP vs Booking.com: Which One Should You Book On?

Luxintravels VIP is our product, so this comparison comes from one side of the table. We've kept to what can be checked, and we say where Booking wins.

Booking is a public marketplace with a free loyalty programme. Luxintravels VIP is a paid private membership. Those two models lead to different results, and the better one depends on how you travel.

The short answer

For a short, cheap stay, or a booking where you want a known brand and free cancellation, start with Booking. For an expensive stay at a luxury hotel, check the private rate as well, because that is where the percentage difference can matter most. The only reliable test is to compare the same room, on the same dates, with the same conditions.

The main differences

Here is how the two compare:

  • Access. Booking is open to anyone. Genius is free, and Level 1 unlocks when you create an account. Luxintravels VIP is a paid membership, and the rates sit behind a login.

  • Stated saving. Genius gives 10% at Level 1, 10% to 15% at Level 2 and 10% to 20% at Level 3, on participating properties. Luxintravels VIP members can save up to 60% off the public price. Both ranges depend on the hotel.

  • Where the price comes from. Genius is a discount on the public price. Luxintravels VIP gives access to private rates, usually kept for travel agents. Our guide on how private hotel rates work explains the difference.

  • Perks. Genius Levels 2 and 3 add free breakfast and room upgrades on selected stays, and Level 3 adds priority support.

  • Coverage. Booking's Genius page cites 850,000 participating properties. Luxintravels VIP covers hotels in more than 150 countries.

  • Track record. Booking is a global brand with a very long history. Luxintravels has 3.3 million followers, more than 48,000 members and more than 22,000 booked stays, but far fewer independent reviews. We would weigh that too.

When Booking is the better choice

We'd tell a friend to stay on Booking in these cases:

  • You book a few cheap stays a year. A percentage saving on a small bill won't add up to much. Free Genius may be all you need.

  • You've reached Genius Level 3. Breakfast and an upgrade can be worth more than a small price difference, as long as the property takes part.

  • You want free cancellation on most stays. Booking makes it easy to filter by it. A private rate may have stricter terms, so check them first.

  • You're booking a chain hotel for its points. Third-party bookings often earn no points or status. In that case compare Booking with the hotel's own member rate too.

When Luxintravels VIP makes sense

A private rate tends to be worth checking in these cases:

  • You stay in luxury hotels. A percentage saving scales with the price of the room, so the same percentage means more on an expensive stay.

  • You take longer trips. More nights means a larger total to save on.

  • You've compared and the private rate wins. This is the only reason that really counts. If it doesn't win on your dates, book the other one.

How to compare them properly

Use one real trip:

  • Search the same hotel, room type, dates and guests on both.

  • Include your Genius discount on the Booking side.

  • Compare the final total with taxes and fees.

  • Check cancellation terms and whether breakfast is included.

No platform has the lowest price on every room on every date, and Booking will sometimes beat us. When that happens, book on Booking.

What about booking direct?

Direct is a third option worth checking. HOTREC's 2026 study reports that 51.3% of bookings at European hotels are direct, and that cancellation rates average 9.1% on hotels' own websites against 19.0% on Booking. Since Booking removed parity clauses in Europe, hotels in the European Economic Area are free to price lower on their own sites.

Booking details come from its Genius page, read on 4 November 2026. They can change, so check before you book.
